Save the Ta-Tas!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! I know I am a little late seeing as it is almost over but better late than never! Here are a few facts I found on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure website (http://www.komen.org/)

  • Evert 3 seconds a women is diagnosed with breast cancer

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women

  • Women aren't the only ones who get breast cancer. In 2007 it is expected that 1% of all breast cancer cases will be men

  • Between 2001-2004 breast incidences decreased by 3.5%

  • Between 1990-2004 breast cancer mortality rates decreased by 2.2% annually

This is a great website. Every year in Indianapolis and I am sure other large cities they hold a Race for the Cure 5K race and walk to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. A friend of mine and I ran it last year and I have to say it was quite an experience. The amount of people was overwhelming! I couldn't believe the amount of cancer survivors running/walking. It was so inspirational and I hope to make the run an annual event. (By the way, thanks to all who sponsored me this year on the race! We were able to donate over $100!) Having relatives that have both survived and succumbed to this disease it is an issue that hits very close to home.

If you would like to find a breast cancer event near you check out the Susan G. Komen website. They have a lot of great information and event postings!
