Alaska Part II

We stayed one more day in Denali but closer to the park and did some more hiking. We didn't actually go into the park because it was so crowded.

We went hiking on a few trails that the women at the cabins we were staying at recommended. We were on the lookout for moose and bear but only saw their poop. I did almost get attacked by a spruce grouse though. I heard this thing crashing out of the woods and there he was running at me.

The next day we took our time and headed toward Anchorage. On the way we stopped by a stream that we were told had great grayling fishing. It looked like it could have been promising but nothing was biting.

Along the road there was a bridge that went over a small stream that, according to the Milepost, had grayling in it. We thought 'what the heck' and decided to try it out. After a few casts Jim hooked into one...

And so did I..

We stayed the night in Anchorage and then we were on our way to Seward for some more fishing. We stopped at the Kenai River to do some salmon fishing as they were running up river to spawn. Apparently there was a bear that was on the other side of the river that morning getting into people's fish but of course was gone by the time we got there.
At this river they call this fishing 'combat fishing'. People are lined up along the river banks practically shoulder to shoulder fishing for these salmon. I kept getting snagged on rocks and after about an hour Jim snapped my rod trying to get it free. I enjoyed the sun while he kept fishing.
Jim ended landing a nice one later in the afternoon...
